”Thames Boilers have just carried out a boiler replacement for me. They quoted promptly with a competitive rate and carried out the work neatly, thoroughly and efficiently to a high standard of workmanship. Engineer George Lane was courteous, explained in advance what he was doing and when he would do it, cleared everything away and left things in a tidy state. I have no hesitation in recommending Thames Boilers.”

What Boilers Do We Recommend To Customers In Penge?

Vaillant Boiler

Vaillant Boilers

Vaillant are one of the most popular boiler makes in the UK. They were arguably the first company to make a “combi”also known as a “combination” boiler back in the early 60’s. So they’re a well established company.

Worcester Bosch Boilers

Worcester Bosch are probably the best known boiler brand in the country. Although now owned by the massive European brand, Bosch, Worcester boilers are still very much a British company. Its boilers are still made in Warndon in Worcester.

Viessmann Boilers

Viessmann are the best boiler brand you’ve never heard of. We love Viessmann here at Thames Boilers because their build quality is as good as (if not better) than Vaillant or Worcester Bosch, but their prices are a little lower. This makes Viessmann great value – and Which? agrees, giving Viessmann boilers several ”Best Buy” awards in recent years.

Baxi Boilers

Baxi Boilers are another well established British heating brand, who can trace their roots back to Richard Baxendale, an iron founder, who began the Baxendale Company in 1866, based in Preston in Lancashire. Today, Baxi also makes boilers under the Main and Potterton brands. We usually recommend Baxi boilers as the least disruptive replacement for some conventional boilers – and their Main brand for people who are on a budget.

FAQ

As a rule, if you‘ve got one bathroom and good pressure at your kitchen tap or outdoors tap, a combi boiler is usually the very best choice.
If you‘ve got over one bathroom, then a conventional boiler (and even a system boiler) with a hot water cylinder would be the best choice for you.

No. For existing houses, if you have to replace your boiler from 2035 onwards, you won’t be allowed to replace it with another gas boiler. Going by current government plans, you would have to install a Hydrogen boiler or a heat pump. However, if your gas boiler is operating in 2035, you won’t need to do anything until it needs to be changed, such as if it’s broken down and beyond repair.

It can vary hugely depending upon what you need.
But as a rough estimate, to take your old boiler out and put a brand-new one in the exact same place varies from about ₤1800 to ₤3000.
And to strip out an old kind of heating system with a hot water tank {and} put in a combi boiler costs between about ₤3000 to ₤5000.
If you need various other work carried out at the same time, such as a power flush, a new gas pipe, or new radiators, this will certainly contribute to the estimated costs.

If you‘ve got 1 bathroom and good water mains pressure, then yes.
If you‘ve got more than 1 bathroom or inadequate water mains pressure, then no{, you should look at a conventional boiler or a system boiler}.

Yes. There are a number of kinds of smart thermostats that can link to the web so you can manage your boiler from your phone. Some brand names customers go with are Nest, Honeywell, Tado, and Hive.

6 Benefits You Get With A New Modern Boiler

1. Cut Your Heating Bills

If you’ve got a very old boiler with a pilot light, old radiators, timer and thermostat, 45pence of every pound you spend on gas is wasted. However you look at it, that’s a terrible waste.

If you upgraded your boiler, controls – and perhaps even your radiators – at least 92pence of every £1 you spend will be put to good use. Only 8pence or less would be wasted. That’s quite a saving – and if you add it up over a year, you could save over £250. On average, that’s an extra £25 per month in your pocket to spend on the nicer things in life, not gas.

2. Save Money On Boiler Breakdowns

Boiler design, engineering and manufacturing in the last 20 years has massively improved. High quality new boilers don’t go wrong as often as old boilers because modern boilers contain minimal moving parts and are subject to stringent quality control.

3. Really powerful showers and fast filling baths

Combi boilers and unvented hot water tanks get their water supply straight from your water mains, rather than a cold water tank in the loft. This means you can get great high pressure hot and cold water at all of your taps and showers. So you can get a “power shower” experience without loft tanks or a booster pump. This saves you space and eliminates the chance of a pump going wrong (because you won’t have one)!

4. Stop running out of hot water

If you find you keep running out of hot water, then your hot water cylinder may be too small – or it may be full of limescale. To fix this, you can either replace your hot water cylinder for a newer efficient one, or if your home is suitable, you can take out your old boiler and hot water tank and replace them both with a combi boiler. This will give you as much hot water as you need and save you space because you don’t need a seperate cylinder and tanks in the loft.

5. Free up more space

Have you ever craved more space in your home? One of the hidden benefits of a new boiler is that it can add extra space in your home. With flexible siting options, your boiler can be safely installed almost anyhere in your home. Plus, if you decide to get a combi boiler, you can remove your hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard and your water tanks in the attic. This immediately creates new space where your tanks and cylinder used to be, which is great for storage.

6. Don’t worry about turning the heating on or off again.

Did you know the very latest heating controls are as easy to use as a smartphone? Gone are the days of squinting at the tiny display on the heating timer and digging out the manual just to change the heating times. Today, you can program your heating either through the simple (and free) apps that come with your new controls, or scroll through the big colour screen to easily change your settings. And the best part is, once you’ve set everything up, your new boiler and heating controls will keep your home at a perfect temperature without using any more gas than absolutely necessary.
