What happens when you book
-
Book online in about 2 minutes
Pick a slot — mornings or afternoons Mon-Fri. The form asks for your address and your boiler brand if you know it. Takes roughly as long as making a cup of tea.
-
I'll text you the morning of the job
You'll get my arrival window by text, then a live ETA when I'm on my way. No waiting in all day. If I'm running late, you'll hear from me before it's a problem.
-
I service the boiler properly
The annual service your boiler manufacturer recommends — not a tick-box pressure check. Usually under 60 minutes. If I spot anything that needs attention I'll tell you before doing any extra work.
-
Done — you're set for another year
I'll clean up after myself, talk you through anything I found, and leave you a service record. £99 inc VAT. Nothing extra unless you've said yes to it.
Why £99 and not £120?
It's a new-customer offer to fill up spring and summer — the quiet months in the trade. If you're happy with the service, you'll probably call me again when the boiler needs repair or when next year's service comes round. I'd rather earn that the hard way than spend it on leaflets and Google ads shouting about limited-time offers. (This one is, mind you. Book while spring's still cheap.)
It's me turning up — George.
I've been in the heating trade since 1999. Started Thames Boilers in 2017 when I got tired of working for firms that treated customers like numbers. Now it's just me.
I live and work in Greenhithe. When you book, I answer the phone, I come out, I service the boiler, I leave you a record. No call centre, no subcontractor, no van driver I've never met. You get one engineer — the same one, every time.
If I'm not the right person for the job — old system, niche installation, commercial setup — I'll say so, and I can usually point you to someone decent.

What I check during a service
Seven things, every time. Not a tick-box and not a sales call. This is what I actually do.
- Flue gas analyser readings. I measure CO and CO₂ output to confirm the boiler's burning cleanly and safely. If it's off, the boiler's running wrong and I'll tell you why.
- Visual inspection, case off. The boiler itself and the flue routing — I'm looking for leaks, corrosion, poor clearances, anything that shouldn't be there.
- Gas working pressure and gas rate. Make sure the boiler's getting the right amount of gas. Too low and it won't fire properly; too high and it runs hot.
- Condensate trap clean. The trap at the bottom that drains acidic water. Cleared out so it doesn't block and shut the boiler down in the middle of winter.
- Expansion vessel pressure check and recharge. The little tank that absorbs pressure changes. If it's flat, the boiler loses pressure all the time. I check it and repressurise if needed.
- Magnetic filter clean (if one's fitted). The filter catches sludge and iron filings from your central heating. Emptying it stops the sludge going round and round.
- Flue integrity test. Confirms the flue isn't leaking combustion gases back into the house. Non-negotiable.
If I spot anything outside that list that needs attention, I'll tell you the cost before doing any extra work.

Common questions
Is £99 the total price?
Yes — £99 inc VAT for a standard boiler service. No hidden add-ons, no call-out fee, no 'while I'm here' upsells. If I spot something that needs attention during the service I'll tell you what it is and what it'd cost to fix, and you decide whether to go ahead. Nothing extra happens without your say-so.
Why is it cheaper than your usual price?
It's a new-customer offer. Spring and summer are quiet in the trade — I'd rather fill them with first-time customers who might call me again when the boiler needs repair than leave gaps in the diary. My usual service price is £120. This is £99 to get you through the door.
How long does it take?
Usually under 60 minutes, depending on the boiler. A standard combi is quicker than an unvented cylinder system. I'll give you an arrival window the day before and a live ETA on the morning so you're not waiting in. You don't need to be there the whole time — just to let me in and lock up after.
What if you find a problem during the service?
I'll tell you before I do anything. No surprise charges, no 'just while I'm here' extras. You'll get the problem, the fix, and the cost in plain English, and then you decide whether to go ahead. If the fix is small I can often do it there and then; bigger jobs I'll book a separate slot.
Does it include a Gas Safety Certificate?
I'll confirm this with you when you book. A Gas Safety Certificate (CP12) is usually needed for landlords and is a separate document from the service itself — I'll quote the certificate fee at the time, no surprises.
