Roads and Rail Connections

Gravesend sits right on the A2, which is the main road connecting it west to Greenhithe and east towards Rochester and the Medway towns. That corridor makes it straightforward for me to get to most parts of town. The A226 runs along the Thames from Gravesend through Northfleet and into my home patch, so the riverside areas are particularly convenient.

Gravesend Station is served by trains on the Southeastern main line, with services to London St Pancras via the HS1 route and also to London Victoria. If you’re waiting for an engineer and need a rough sense of timing, I’m just the other side of the A2 in DA9.

Gravesend Homes and Heating Issues

Gravesend has a broad spread of housing — from the older Victorian and Edwardian terraces in the town centre and Windmill Hill, through interwar semis across the DA11 suburbs, to the larger detached homes up on the hill towards Singlewell and Istead Rise.

The older town centre properties often have older vented systems that have been partially upgraded over the years. These can suffer from corroded pipework, stuck valves, and heat loss from poorly insulated tanks in the loft. If you’re in one of these and your hot water is inconsistent, a service and system flush often makes a big difference.

The 1930s and 1950s semis — particularly around Riverview Park and further south — tend to have system boilers running off a hot water cylinder. These homes often still have the original radiators and can benefit from balancing or upgraded thermostatic radiator valves.

Up towards DA12 and DA13, there’s more variation: larger detached properties with multiple bathrooms sometimes have unvented cylinders fitted, which is where my G3 qualification comes in. It’s a specialist area and not all engineers are qualified to work on them.
