Getting Around — Roads and Access

Longfield is one of my more southerly coverage areas, sitting on the higher ground above the Thames estuary towns. The main route in from Greenhithe is via the A2, then south on the B260 or B262 through Southfleet and up into the village. It’s a different landscape up here — more rural, more spread out — but it’s territory I know well.

Longfield Station is on the Southeastern line between Gravesend and Swanley, with trains to London Victoria and Blackfriars. It’s a quiet station, but useful to know if you’re on Station Road or the streets immediately around it.

Longfield Homes and Heating

Longfield and the surrounding DA3 villages feel quite different from the urban parts of North Kent. The housing is predominantly detached and semi-detached, with a reasonable proportion of larger homes on good-sized plots. It’s an area where people have often invested in their heating systems — unvented cylinders are more common here than in some of the more densely built-up areas, and I see quite a few multi-zone heating setups with separate controls for different parts of the house.

The village centre and Longfield Hill have a mix of older properties — some Victorian and Edwardian, some interwar — alongside more recent infill developments. The older homes can have original pipework that’s been supplemented rather than replaced, and it’s common to find mismatched radiators of different vintages that affect the balance of the whole system.

Hartley and Fawkham have more rural character with some genuinely old cottages and farmhouse conversions. These can throw up unusual heating arrangements — old back boilers, oil-to-gas conversions, or systems that were originally designed for different fuel types. I take my time with these properties and always explain what I find.

New Barn is predominantly 1960s and 70s detached housing with system boilers and hot water cylinders. The boilers in this area are often at or past the end of their serviceable life, and it’s an area where I do a fair amount of like-for-like replacement and system modernisation work.

What to Expect When You Book

When you get in touch I’ll ask about the system and the symptoms — that way I can bring the most likely parts with me and avoid a wasted visit if it’s a common fault. I serve Longfield on a scheduled basis, so if you’re not in an emergency situation, I’ll find you a convenient slot. Urgent problems are always prioritised. On the day I’ll assess the situation, talk you through it, and agree costs before starting. I’ll always tell you if I think a repair isn’t the most cost-effective solution.
