Roads and Rail in Northfleet

Northfleet sits between Gravesend to the east and Greenhithe to the west, with the A226 running along the river connecting them. That road is my main route through the area, so getting to riverside Northfleet is quick and easy. The A2 passes along the southern edge of town via the Watling Street corridor, giving good access to Perry Street and the upper residential areas.

Northfleet Station is on the Southeastern line, with trains to London Victoria and London Cannon Street. If you’re near the station or anywhere along the Springhead Road, I can usually be with you very quickly from Greenhithe.

Northfleet Homes and Heating

Northfleet has a distinctive mix of housing that reflects its industrial past. The older streets near the river and town centre — Perry Street, Stonebridge Road, and the terraces around the high street — are largely Victorian and Edwardian properties. These homes have often had their heating systems updated piecemeal over the years and can have all sorts of oddities: mixed pipework diameters, old gravity systems partially converted to sealed circuits, and boilers that were installed without proper commissioning.

The Cementfields estate and the streets around Northfleet Green are predominantly post-war housing — mostly 1950s and 60s builds with system boilers and hot water cylinders. These properties are at the age where the original boilers are long gone but the replacement units can now be getting on in years themselves. I see a lot of ageing Worcester Greenstar and Potterton system boilers in this part of town.

Up on The Hill and towards the Huggens College area, you get a mixture of larger semis and detached homes, some of which have been extended and upgraded with modern unvented cylinders. If you’ve got an unvented cylinder in your Northfleet property — or you’re thinking of fitting one — I’m G3 qualified to carry out repairs and servicing.

What to Expect When You Book

Get in touch by phone or online and I’ll ask a quick question or two about your system and the problem. I’ll come to you with a van stocked with the parts most commonly needed for your type of boiler. On arrival I’ll carry out a thorough inspection, tell you exactly what I find, and agree the work and cost with you before starting. Most repairs are completed in one visit. If a part needs to be ordered, I’ll aim to get back within a day or two of it arriving.
