Roads and Rail Around Swanscombe

Swanscombe sits on the A226, the road that runs along the Thames from Gravesend through Northfleet and into Greenhithe. It’s a route I travel daily. The A2 is accessible from the southern part of the town via the Springhead Road junction, connecting Swanscombe to the wider motorway network and to the M25 Dartford Crossing.

Swanscombe Station is a small station on the Southeastern line between Northfleet and Greenhithe, with services towards London and Gravesend. It’s right in the heart of the village, and properties within walking distance are particularly convenient for me to reach from my base in DA9.

Housing in Swanscombe

Swanscombe is a town with real character in its housing stock. The village centre has a cluster of older Victorian and Edwardian terraces — particularly around Swanscombe Street and the roads off it. These homes have often had multiple generations of heating work done on them: old open-vented systems converted to pressurised, back boilers removed and replaced with combis, and all sorts of pipework modifications along the way. I enjoy working on these properties because no two are exactly the same.

Galley Hill and the streets off Milton Road have a lot of 1950s and 60s local authority housing that’s since been sold off and privately maintained. These are typically solid houses with system boilers and cylinder setups. The boilers in these properties are often of a certain age — well past their recommended service life — and I regularly end up advising on replacement rather than another costly repair.

Out towards Ebbsfleet Valley and the Springhead Road, the picture is completely different: modern new-build homes with combi boilers, underfloor heating in some cases, and smart controls already fitted. If you’re in one of the newer phases of the Ebbsfleet development and fall inside DA10, I cover you just the same as the older parts of Swanscombe.

What to Expect When You Book

Call me or book through the website and I’ll ask a few brief questions — the boiler make and model if you know it, what it’s doing, and whether you’ve had any recent work done on the system. This helps me arrive ready rather than having to make a separate parts run. On the day I’ll have a thorough look, explain what I find, and get your agreement before starting work. Most Swanscombe jobs are done in a single visit.
